The Cutting Stage:
| Cut the siding as shown in the cutting drawing
HERE.
Keep in mind that the two sheets from one side will be mirror
images of the two used on the other side. This is because
of the overlap joint between pannels. If you are unsure, lay
the sheets out, face down, and joint overlaping. Mark the
entire front or back then cut out individual parts. Do not
worry about cutting the openings now, wait until the front
framework is complete so any inaccuracies can be compensated
for. |
Cut the following:

identical pieces. Glue the long faces together to form a
peaked ridge pole.

The ends are cut to an angle giving a 2:1 slope. The easiest
way to calculate the angle is to use a framing square. Lay
a straight edge from the 10 in. position on the tounge to
the 20 in. position on the leg. That gives the proper angle.
The measurement is from end to end after the angle is cut.
Cut a flat on one end of each, leaving 3/4 inch. See the
drawing HERE
for more information. |
Roof
Cut the 1/2 CDX. The wasteful way is to cut one piece 26 3/4
in from each sheet. You can save some money by cutting one
26 3/4 in. piece from each sheet then sut sections from the
off cut to make up the other 26 3/4 piece. You may also add
some overhang. |

The Assembly Stage
Start by assembling the front
and back walls, laying them out on the shop floor. Do not
assemble any of the rafters at this time. Notice the cutout
at the top of the end walls. This is for the tie bar to
hold things together. Screw every thing together using 2
1/2 wood screws.
You can see the frame front assembly. There
are slight differences between the assembled version and
the drawings. If there is any doubt, please refer to the
drawings. |
 |
Build the rear frame from the drawing using
the same methods. Lay the rear frame out over the the previously
assembled front frame. This will insure that both frames
are the same size.
Connect the front and rear frames together
using the various cross pieces and the base. Add the cross
pieces for the roosts and entrance door.
Everything is in place. The small triangles
are scraps from the rafter construction and hold the roosts
in place.
There are several optional positions for the
roosts as shown HERE
