This
is a great description of a start into the Pekin World.....

Pekins,
Pekins, Pekins..... and here, I am, yes, after a few years of
breeding hens, one day I decided my nephew had grown up enough
to take care of a couple of hens. Four years old was just the
right age to get started. So, I looked inside the adverts and
there was a couple of buff pekin from Barcelona. Good hens for
a start.
After two days they were at my place in Málaga. I put them
on the floor. They were like two people three months old, dressed
in furry clothes, shiney buff. Looking to me with wondering eyes.
I showed them to everybody and everybody became in love with them,
like me, of these two.
As my brother´s wife didn´t agree with me about hens
and my nephew´s age, I was very glad to keep pekins with
me. This was the middle of summer and during the winter she started
laying. I incubated a lot of eggs but I only got a male as the
others died days before being born. I was thinking of getting
another female from a different family when she died.
In january I got a new pair from Barcelona too, but born in Germany.
A very shiney and clear buff. Another beautiful pair of pekins.
I bred with them three and now I think I have the most beautifull
buff pekins of the south of Spain. Yes, I´ve seem a lot
of buff pekins by here but not ones like mine. Maybe sometimes
more lovely, but not as beautifull.
Last year I went to 1st Cochin Day at Zeddam – Netherlands
. Lovely pekins there. When I returned to Málaga I took
with me a pair of lavender pekins from Belgium. Of course they
aren't like my buff ones, but they are good too. As I though,
I needed a lavender pekin from another family, so I got another
pair from a friend at La Coruña, in the north of Spain.
So,
this year I hope to be the owner of the best lavender pekins in
the south. Also, my nephew, told me the other day, she prefers
the lavender ones.
