Pekin Bantams in Denmark

by Ulla Markdal Stabell

In our "Kochin Klub" (”Cochin club”) are right now 86 members, mostly from DK, but also a few from Norway, Sweden and Belgium. Besides the 86 members there are also lots of breeders who are not a member of our club and it’s impossible for me to say how many.

We follow the "Scandinavian Standard" for both breed and colour.

This year we have planned two shows: a ”Cochin-day” the 9th of September, this day we are talking breeding, feeding, shows etc, so not a show where all chicks are set up (washed and … "made pretty for show”) but a day, just to talk and getting advise from others. The second is the National the first weekend in December (always the first weekend in December) and this is the "show of the year” in DK with a lot of other chicks, ducks etc – normally about 4000 animals.

Earlier we used to have a special show just for Cochins (remember that our club is for both Standard and the Pekin Bantam), but only a few Cochins came so last year and until now, we have canceled this show. There are also local shows with both cochins and others.

We have the following colours of Pekin bantam: white, black, buff, blue, lavender, red, mottled, barred, buff barred, birchen, partridge, salmon, white columbian, buff columbian, creole (in Danish: "Legbar” - see image below), porcelain and lavender barred. We have also 3 frizzled: white, black and buff. So that will be 21 colours in Pekin bantams!

Best regards, Ulla
