A good way of tracking your chickens throughout their life is to use the toe punching method. This way you won't have to spend money on buying lots of sizes of leg ring and you won't have to go to the trouble of changing them as the bird grows up.
Toe
punching is done using a simple instrument such as the one shown to the
right. The hole is made in the webbing on the foot, although the chick
may make a lot of noise it will not hurt it and is a one time only procedure.
